Korkortu Books, the book, "Greedy
Spider," is diligently written, designed, and
constructed carefully with the children in mind. A very fun book to
read, the lesson of the book is a step-by-step reading material
that will enhance the learning ability of any child.
Greedy
Spider is a very friendly female spider who
loves her neighbors. She is very skilled at building silk
nets, which act both as a trap for
ensnaring prey and as a dwelling place for her. She uses
the net to trap insects and animals. Moreover other animals are
jealous of her because she builds beautiful silk nets. But the
forest creatures knew they could only watch from afar, for if they
got too close they could become breakfast, lunch, dinner, or even a
snack for Greedy Spider.
This story is set
in Nyantro, a small village on a rolling hill 55 miles outside of
Greenville and near Liberia. The orgin of the story goes back more
than 700 years. My grandfather has told and retold this story
to me and the children of Nyantro just as it was passed on to him
by his elders years before.
The Greedy
Spider was invited to join her neighbors for the
Thanksgiving feast. She receives 4 invitations from her neighbors
on either side of her home, across the street, and behind her
house. She promised each neighbor that she would definitely be at
the dinner, so she suggested to each neighbor to tie a rope around
her waist and pull when the dinner is ready. Surprisingly, each
dinner was prepared at the same time and all the neighbors started
pulling. Laugh and learn together and you may guess that
she never got to eat at any neighbors.
